about.me

Did you know there are websites other than Facebook, Twitter and Instagram? Me either.

In an attempt to reach a larger audience with my videos, I’ve taken to Google to find new social media platforms. Google led me to Pinterest. Pinterest came through and suggested about.me: http://about.me/cw3283 Have I been living under a rock? It sure feels like it. I know I’ve seen this simple web address before. Maybe I’m thinking of that spring.me site where people could ask you questions anonymously.

I remember a few years ago, I was talking to a friend of mine who didn’t have a Facebook account and I asked him in all seriousness, “If you don’t have a Facebook profile, what do you use your computer for?” That’s a very embarrassing truth. Before Facebook there was Myspace and before Myspace there was Friendster. I might be showing my age here but I’m really just trying to show that my very expensive and beautiful 15″ Apple Powerbook was purchased [what seems like] a hundred million years ago so that I could update my Myspace top 8 with ease. Several years later I purchased my Macbook Air but I was able to use my photography as my excuse. I needed to edit with lightning speed! I wasn’t at all upgrading so I could creep on profiles faster. [insert sunglasses emoticon here]

Pinterest suggested about.me as a way of “promoting your brand via social media” and I believe anything and everything Pinterest tells me. Filling out my personal info and selecting a profile photo is a guilty pleasure so I didn’t have much holding me back from checking it out.

I’m still figuring out how it work or if it’s just an online business card, but either way it’s nice to look at.

about.me isn’t the only site I’ve joined:
Savvyist! – The newest site I’ve found and I really like it. You can add photos, join makeup challenges and tag the site on Instagram. The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t follow or add anyone.
I Want That Look – I have gone back and forth with this site’s tech team and my profile still isn’t loading properly. It’s been a few weeks and I haven’t replied to the last email about how my profile isn’t saving correctly. I like the idea of the site since it’s ran by YouTube, but it really hasn’t been a great experience.
Beautylish – I am not a makeup guru. This site seems a little too much for me. I posted a few makeup looks and they’ve gone unnoticed. I posted a picture of a front bang braid I wore when I had red/pink hair and it has over 115 likes… so I know the shit ain’t broken. I guess they just don’t like how I put makeup on my face.
